About

Matayoshi Kobudo School Saskatchewan Inc. is an initiative by Chris de Feijter. Chris has trained Japanese martial arts since 1983, starting with Judo. In 1989, Chris started training karate-jutsu styles Wadō-Ryu, Genwakai (Sensei Koster, Sensei Kobayashi), Genseiryu (Sensei Kono) and Shitō-Ryu (Sensei Hikatori), and received his shodan in 1998 and nidan in 2008. He is actively studying Shotokan karate as 1st Kyu (Sensei Chiefcalf). Chris receives exploratory training in Bujinkan Taijutsu (Sensei Kartz) and has received training in Daitō-ryū Aikijutsu (Sensei Mizumi).

Included in his training, Chris trained with the bō, jō, tonkua (tonfa) and bokken, following the traditions of various schools, including Matayoshi Kobudo Ryu. Chris continued his kobudo training in 2008 as self-study. He has not yet been ranked. He is currently also training the shoden (初伝) curriculum in Musō Jikiden Eishin-Ryū Iai-jutsu (無双直伝英信流).

Chris is currently not a certified instructor.  His focus is to train together to learn together. Although he has some years of experience in Kobudo  and teaching empty-hand budo such as Karate-jutsu, Jiu-Jutsu and Aikido, he is learning just like any other budoka. If you are seeking teachings from a certified instructor, please look further. Attending instruction is at your own risk. You are responsible for your own health. By entering a martial arts dojo, participants willingly take the risk of possibly getting injured.
